SIALKOT, Oct 6: The local Civil Defence bomb disposal squad on Saturday defused a high-intensity Indian-made anti-tank mine, weighing four pounds, in Bajwat sector’s Sukhiyaal village near the Sialkot working boundary.
Official sources told Dawn that farmers were likely the main target of the anti-tank landmine planted by some unidentified terrorists. Some farmers found the landmine and informed Chenab Rangers who called out the bomb disposal squad from Sialkot who defused it.
Chenab Rangers and sensitive agencies surrounded the entire border area and continued a search operation to detect more such explosive material.
Meanwhile, the Indian security forces on Saturday continued unprovoked firing on villages along the working boundary, badly damaging three houses and paddy crop.
RESOLUTIONS PASSED: The Sialkot district assembly’s second meeting on Saturday passed two resolutions regarding the formulation of by-laws committee and presiding officers’ panel while two resolutions were postponed till the next session.
The meeting was presided over by Sialkot district Naib Nazim Ali Asjad Malhi here on Saturday.
Female members, led by former MPA Begum Sajida Nayyer Abidi, raised their voice against the non-participation of female members in by-laws committee and presiding officers’ panel of the district assembly.
A majority of government and opposition members also criticized the step, suggesting that female members should also be included in these committees by making necessary amendments in the laws.
Convener, Sialkot district assembly Ali Asjad Malhi, assured his full support to female members in this regard.
