ISLAMABAD, April 23: Wapda were crowned champions of the 51st National badminton championship men’s team event after they defeated National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) 3-0 played at the Rodham Hall on Wednesday.

In the singles category, Wajid Ali hammered Rizwan Azam 21-15, 21-19 while Umer Zeeshan defeated Muhammad Ijaz 21-17, 17-21,21-17.

In the doubles category Rizwan Rana & Muhammad Attique sidelined Rizwan Azam & Kashif Sulehri 22-20, 23-21.

Meanwhile, in the women’s team event NBP walloped Wapda 3-1. Sara Khan of (NBP) knocked out Sadia Arshad in three set matches 21-11, 15-21, 19-21 as Ayesha Akram (NBP) bt Uzma Butt (Wapda) 21-6,21-14 in the singles category.

In the doubles category Saima Waqas & Farzana Ali (Wapda) defeated Ayesha & Palwasha Basheer (NBP) 16-21, 21-14,21-12 Sara Khan & Sara Mohmand (NBP) beat Sadia Arshad & Aneeqa Rana (Wapda) 21-15, 21-17.
