MIRAMSHAH, April 23: As many as 8,000 bags of flour were smuggled to Afghanistan in 19 trucks on Tuesday night, sources said.

They claimed that the smuggler had paid Rs80,000 per truck as bribe to personnel at checkposts. Of this amount, they said, Rs70,000 was received by security personnel at the checkpoints and 10,000 went into the pockets of middlemen.

They said security personnel had let seven truckloads of flour cross the border in a convoy of trucks carrying cement and had allowed another 12 to go through Chakhi and Algao checkposts between 10pm to 1am.

The sources said 60 trucks had been parked near the border village Ghulam Khan due to the blockade of the road by security personnel, but the smugglers were able to transport flour to Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, the people of the agency have complained of steep rise in the flour price due to excessive smuggling to Afghanistan. They have demanded action against officials involved in allowing flour smuggling to Afghanistan.
