Wapda lead in National athletics

LAHORE, April 22: Wapda with 154 points in both men and women categories emerged as the overall leaders when 10 more finals were decided on the penultimate day of the 40th National athletics championship here at the Punjab Stadium on Tuesday.

Wapda obtained 97 points in the women’s category, which they are competing as the defending champions. They grabbed eight gold, three silver and five bronze medals.

In the men’s category, Wapda earned 57 points — two gold, four silver and bronze medals — to take the overall lead.

Army, the defending champions in the men’s category, became the overall runners-up when they seized seven gold, four silver and three bronze medals.

400m hurdles (men): Haq Nawaz (Army) 52.58sec; Mohammad Mohsin (Wapda); Asad Manzoor (Army).

400m hurdles (women): Nadia Nazir (Wapda) one min 1.50sec; Tasneem Akhtar (Pak Steel); Saira Bano (Wapda).

800m race (men): Ali Mohammad (Wapda) one min 51.93sec; Farhan Ahmad (Wapda); Zafar Iqbal (Army).

Triple jump (women): Mariam Babar (Wapda) 11.15m; Nadia Zulfqiar (Punjab); Aliya Noor (Wapda).

Discus throw (men): Basharat Ali (Army) 51.13m; Mohammad Shamshad (Army); Asim Aleem Randhawa (Wapda).

110m hurdles (men): Abdul Rasheed (Wapda) 14.24sec; Mohammad Shahbaz (Wapda); Zahid Imran (Army).
