SHEIKHUPURA, April 23: A criminal was shot dead in an encounter with CIA in the Ferozewala police jurisdiction, Chukook Road Monday night.

Reports said the CIA had set up picket on the Chukook Road. Meanwhile, three people, riding on a motorcycle, appeared there and opened fire on police when they signalled them to stop.

The police returned firing, killing Shahid alias Dana on the spot. Two of his accomplices managed to flee.

Talking to newsmen on Tuesday, Sheikhupura SSP Chaudhry Muhammad Shafiq said the deceased was involved in over three dozen cases of murders, dacoity and abduction for ransom. He was wanted by Lahore, Gujranwala, Narowal, Sialkot and Sheikhupura police.

He said the criminal had kidnapped Lahore CIA SP Aslam Sahi’s nephew Saeed Sahi for ransom. He was also involved in kidnapping trader Seth Abdul Ghani’s two sons Abu Huraira and Abu Zar for ransom, he added.

The SSP claimed Shahid used to extort jagga tax at gunpoint from prominent traders and wealthy people in the locality.

The Police had recovered a motorcycle, 223-bore gun, and huge quantity of cartridges from the deceased, the SSP said.
