FAISALABAD, April 14: The National Textile University administration has told parents of hundreds of students that it would restart the current semester if the protest drive launched by pupils dragged on.

University dean Dr Mohammad Zubair has sent letters to parents of all students seeking their immediate intervention to stop their children from protesting against the administration.

The university was closed for an indefinite period by the vice-chancellor on April 8 following a protest drive launched by the students of various departments.

Sources said the NTU dean threatened parents that students would suffer because of the strike and probably university would make a fresh start which could cost one academic year to students.

The university dean termed the strike a tussle between junior and senior students.

A faculty member requesting anonymity said the letters to parents would help resolve the issue swiftly as scores of them had already started contacting administration for their unconditional support.

A students’ representative said the university should accept their genuine demands instead of exerting pressure on them from different quarters.
