KARACHI: Census body formed

KARACHI, April 12: The Sindh government has constituted a provincial census coordination committee to achieve credible results of the next population and housing census in October 2008.

To be headed by the Sindh chief secretary, the committee will comprise a senior member of the Sindh Board of Revenue, additional chief secretary (development), secretary education and literacy department, secretary (GA and C), SGA and CD, provincial police officer, director of military lands and cantonments, district coordination officer, city government.

The provincial census commissioner will act as member/ secretary, while one non-official member (preferably female) will be the cooperative member.

The terms of reference of the composition are: to administer and supervise all management issues related with the census activities like appointment, training of field staff, constitution of the district coordination committee, formation of vigilance teams, establishment of control room, distribution and safe retrieval of filled in census form etc.; to implement the directives/ instruc-tions issued by the provincial census officer (headquarters), Islamabad; and to carry out/ ensure all instructions to the level of the census district officers.—APP
