JHANG, April 11: The Kotwali police have registered a case against six policemen after three alleged criminals fled from their custody on Thursday.

Accused Ghulam Abbas, Muhammad Yar and Barkhurdar were being tried on charges of robbery, extortion and murder, respectively. They were brought to a judicial lock up located on the premises of the district courts a day before their production in separate courts and the six policemen were deployed to look after them. The criminals removed the iron grill of the attached bath of the lock up and fled, but the policemen remained ‘ignorant’.

In consequence, a case was registered against Sub-Inspector Ahmad Khan, Assistant Sub-Inspector Iqbal, Head Constable Muhammad Iqbal and constables Yousaf, Waqas and Azhar. Four of the police officials have been arrested, while there was no clue to the absconding criminals.

TWO DIE ON ROAD: Two people were killed in separate accidents in the district.

In the first accident, police constable Abid Hussain was killed when his motorcycle was run over by a truck near Bukharian bus stand on Chiniot-Jhang Road. Hussain’s friend Naveed was injured seriously.

In another incident, cyclist Riaz was crushed to death by a speeding van on Jhang-Bhakkar Road near village Dall in the 18 Hazari area of Jhang tehsil.
