KARACHI, April 10: Sailors from Pakistan, Kazakhstan and Egypt won honours on the opening day of the inaugural five nation CAS International Open sailing regatta which commenced at the picturesque PAF Korangi Creek on Thursday.

The hosts are leading in Optimist boys and girls, Laser Standard, and Mistral while Kazakhstan and Egypt enjoyed an edge over opponents in Laser Radial and 4.7 classes at the end of three races.

The UK and Sri Lanka are the other two nations competing for the glory. The UAE were also supposed to arrive on Wednesday night but opted out at the eleventh hour.

A total of 11 races are to be sailed in the regatta with two discard allowed.

Foreigners have entered in five of the six classes and Mistral is the only exception.

According to programme, three races are to be sailed on Friday and Saturday with Sunday as rest day. The remaining two races will be held on Monday.

Optimist Girls:

1- Fabiha Khan (Pak) pp 5.0, 2-Hadia Khan (Pak) pp 8.0, 3- Palwasha (Pak) pp 9.0

Laser Radial:

1-Ruslon Jangzov (Kaz) pp 4.0, 2-Athar Sultan (Pak) pp 7.0, 3-Abdul Hameed (Pak) 9.0

Laser Standard:

1-Ishfaq Iqbal (Pak) pp 4.0, 2-M. Yousaf (Pak) pp 5.0, 3-Wilayat Ali (Pak) pp 10.0

4.7:

1-Ahmed Ragab (Egy) pp 4.0, 2-Shazli Tahir (Pak) pp 5.0, 3-Junaid Ahmed pp 9.0

Mistral:

1-M. Tanveer (Pak) pp 3.0, 2-Amir (Pak) pp 9.0, 3-Qasim (Pak) pp 9.0
