ATTOCK, April 10: About 763 bags of 20-kg wheat flour each were seized at Mullah Mansoor check post on main GT road during the last 24 hours.

The flour was being smuggled to NWFP through different vehicles from various Punjab districts including Rawalpindi and Jhehlum.

The district coordination officer (DCO) Abdul Razzak Malik said here on Thursday that later on, all the confiscated atta stock was sold out to the people of Attock and its surrounding areas of Gondal, Haji Shah and Kamra against fixed price of Rs300 per bag.

He also disclosed that it has been revealed through intelligence reports that now atta was being smuggled through buses and coaches to avoid checking, therefore public transport is now also being checked at the check posts.

As part of anti-atta smuggling measures, the deputy district officers revenue (DDORs) of all six tehsils of the district have also been directed to supervise the wheat flour movement at their respective areas by exercising their powers as special magistrates and would submit their weekly reports to his office regular basis, he said. The DDORs of Attock, Fatehjang, Pindigheb, Hazro and Hasanabdal also imposed fine of Rs 21000 over the profiteers and shopkeepers for not displaying official price lists during the surprise checking at their respective markets, he added.

Meanwhile, the DCO Abdul Razzak Malik and district Police officer (DPO) Attock Tariq Hanif Joiya jointly paid surprise visit to food check posts at the district to monitor its performance of checking wheat flour smuggling.

They visited joint food check post of Rangers and food department at Mullah Mansoor on main GT road, Khushalgarh on Pindi-Kohat road, Jarikus on Hazara road and Burhan at Motorway Interchange and examined the record and other details, which had been taken to control the wheat flour smuggling under the directive of Punjab government.
