KHAIRPUR, April 7: Angry workers of the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional clashed with police on Monday and prevented arrest of the vice-president of PML-F Khairpur chapter.
A heavy contingent of Kotdiji police stopped the motorcade of PML-F leader Aziz Gopang on the National Highway when he was going to his village in Kotdiji, and tried to arrest him, leading to exchange of hot words and clash between police and PML-F activists.
The angry activists were soon joined by a large number of party fellows who reached there in the lead of former PML-F MNA Syed Javed Shah Jilani and District Nazim Syed Niaz Hussain Shah after hearing the news about clash.
They blockaded the highway near Therhi bridge and ended the protest after police contingent left without making any arrest after holding talks with PML-F leader Syed Javed Shah Jilani.
Mr Jilani later said at a press conference that police in Faiz Ganj, Tharri Mirwah and Kotdiji talukas were harassing the party workers and arresting them without any reason.
He alleged that a number of fake FIRs had been lodged against party workers and leaders. Aziz Gopang had obtained pre-arrest bails for the fake FIRs lodged against, he said.
