KARACHI, April 22: The Sindh Lawyers Committee staged here on Monday a protest demonstration against the Thal canal project and demanded just provision of water for Sindh.

Lawyers gathered outside Shuhda-i-Punjab hall of the City Courts and from there walked up to nearby M. A. Jinnah Road, carrying banners inscribed with slogans against the Thal canal project and unjust water distribution to Sindh.

Rejecting the Thal canal project they demanded that Sindh be provided water according to the 1945 agreement, and warned the government against its present water distribution policy which, they claimed, would turn Sindh into a vast desert.

Speakers at the protest rally said because of unjust water policy more than 1.2 million acres of land had been affected by salinity and the Thal canal would further aggravate the situation.
