LAHORE/ISLAMABAD, April 4: Pakistan Muslim League-Q president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Friday nominated Senator Kamil Ali Agha as the leader of opposition in the Senate.

The decision was taken at a meeting presided over by Chaudhry Shujaat and attended by leaders of allied opposition parties and former leader of the house Senator Wasim Sajjad.

The PML-Q said an application had been submitted in the office of Senate Chairman Mohammedmian Soomro for appointment of Mr Agha.

Former leader of the combined opposition, Mian Raza Rabbani, resigned from the post after formation of the PPP-led coalition government.

Later, he was appointed leader of the house by Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani.

Senator Agha has served as the party’s chief whip, minister of state for parliamentary affairs and parliamentary secretary for foreign affairs.

Talking to Dawn, Senator Agha said he would try to effectively project the stand of the PML-Q and allied parties.

He said that the PML-Q would play the role of a responsible opposition as declared by the party leadership.
