OKARA, April 2: Two people were killed while another sustained injuries over the issue of abduction of a woman here on Wednesday at Pathankot.

Some time back one Munir kidnapped Shamim Akhtar and arranged her marriage with Shaukat Ali of Pathankot village.

On Tuesday night, some family members of Shamim came to the house of Munir at Pathankot, inquired about Shamim Akhtar and resorted to firing. During a crossfire, accused Munir and Shamim’s relative Aslam were killed on the spot while Shaukat was shifted to hospital in a critical condition. Shamim’s relatives -- Liaquat Abbas and Tanvir -- managed to escape.

Police are investigating.

CRACKDOWN: District coordination officer Maj Tariq Javid Afridi (retd) has launched crackdown on adulterators and hoarders of daily commodities.

He was presiding over a meeting of flour mills owners, trader representatives and officers of the respective departments here on Wednesday. He said hoarders and adulterators would be fined and prosecuted.

The DCO said rights of flour millers would be protected. He asked them to supply flour according to the wheat quota.

He directed revenue EDO Ghulam Nabi Krori to provide to him details of flour produced by mills on a daily basis.
