LAHORE, March 28: Chief selector Islahuddin Siddiqui on Friday said that the selection committee will recommend a new set of probables on Saturday after receiving fresh instructions from the Pakistan Hockey Federation chief Mir Zafarullah Jamali for the same.

“I will meet fellow selector Samiullah Khan in Karachi on Saturday to select the names of the probables,” Islahuddin told Dawn. “We will also have online consultations with the other selector Mudassar Asghar in Lahore.”

“I have expressed my point of view to President Jamali over the manner in which the selectors were bypassed on Thursday and on his instruction we will be recommending the new list of probables to the PHF,” he said.

On Thursday, the PHF stumped everyone by releasing the names of 33 probables to the media without any consultations with the selectors.

The probables are to attend the training camp in Lahore from April 8 for back-to-back international assignments – the Azlan Shah Cup in Malaysia and the all-important European tour in May.

“I donot agree with the way the probables were picked up on Thursday,” explained Islah. “We will, however, consider the names of those selected earlier by the PHF but I can’t say at the moment if all of them will be retaied in the new list.”
