Punjab Assembly session on April 9

Published March 28, 2008

LAHORE, March 27: Governor Khalid Maqbool on Thursday finally notified the first session of the Punjab Assembly on April 9 on the advice of the chief minister.

The date for the session was announced unofficially last week. But the governor signed the related summary on Wednesday.

Outgoing Speaker Muhammad Afzal Sahi will preside over the session, which will begin at 11am.

The session is restricted to the oath of the members-elect and election of the new speaker and deputy speaker.

Officials said the session would continue for just three to four days. It would be prorogued sine die afterwards, they said, adding that the date for the election of the leader of the house had not as yet been decided.

They said the date and time of the session was determined by the care-taker chief minister as per the Constitution, ignoring the Revocation of Proclamation of the Emergency Order under which this was to be done by the president.
