HYDERABAD, March 27: The Hyderabad circuit bench of the Sindh High Court on Thursday issued notices to DPO of Badin, SHO of Badin police station and four relatives of a Muslim convert woman who accused them of harassing her after she married of her own free will.

Maryam whose name was Shanti before she converted filed a petition in court citing her father Wago Kolhi, brother Mitho Kolhi and relatives Sona Kolhi and Kirshan Kolhi as respondents.

She said that her family turned against her after she embraced Islam. Fearing for her life she requested for protection.

She said that her father, brother and other relatives started harassing her in-laws by using their influence with local landlords and Pangrio police who were chasing them and raiding the houses of her husband, his brothers and relatives in Haji Din Mohammad village.

She said that life and honour of her husband and herself were in grave danger and maintained that her lawful right to live a harmonious life had been infringed upon and she was an aggrieved person under Article 199 of the Constitution.

She prayed the court to declare unlawful the act of harassment by her relatives and requested the court to order police to restrain the respondents from harassing her and her in-laws.
