LAHORE, March 26: The Solid Waste Management Wing of the city district government on Wednesday regained the possession of around 12 kanals of land at Shera Kot from a grabber after two decades

or so.

Situated along Babu Sabu drain and worth billions of rupees, the land had been in the illegal possession of Nadeem Bhatti who had constructed truck stands, rooms and private toilets over it.

The land grabber had managed to engage the CDGL in litigation and obtained a court stay.

The district officers I and II of the SWM operations reached the spot along with Jinnah Hall DSP Qasim Khan and a police party led by Shera Kot SHO Kazim Khan and retrieved the land after the court vacated the stay order.

Nadeem is a brother of Habibullah Bhatti, a former Nazim of Union Council 86, who was found involved in extortion of both buyers and sellers of animals before Eidul Azha in 2006, in an inquiry held by a senior officer of the Punjab Local Government Department.

District Officer Dr Tufail Siddiqui told this reporter District Coordination Officer Mian Ijaz directed the SWM wing to park its machinery on the retrieved land.
