SUKKUR, March 25: The agriculture department organised a training programme for farmers regarding conservation of irrigation water and lining of watercourses at Thekratho, Sukkur district.

According to an official handout issued here on Tuesday, the training programme was attended by a large number of growers from Pano Akil, Rohri and Salehpat talukas.

Speaking on the occasion, the Executive District Officer, Agriculture, Ghulam Murtaza Bugti, said that main purpose of organising the programme was to encourage the growers to secure benefits from the government’s policy of lining of watercourses and avoid unnecessary loss of irrigation water.

Responding to growers demand, the EDO agriculture pledged to conduct more such training programmes at UC level and keep the growers updated about benefits of water conservation.

He asked the staff of National Programme for Improvement of Watercourses (NPIW) to ensure completion of lining of watercourses in their concerned fields in the stipulated period.

He also gave a detailed briefing to the Additional Chief Secretary Sindh, Nazar HussainMahar, about the performance of agriculture department in the district on his arrival at Sukkur airport.
