Deadline for desilting

Published March 20, 2008

LAHORE, March 19: Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) Managing Director Pervez Iftikhar has set July 1 deadline to complete the desilting of open drains and sewerage pipes in various localities of the provincial metropolis.

Under this deadline, the Wasa’s project management unit has been directed to continue late night operations in order to achieve the target within the stipulated time. The PMU has constituted five major units that will be assigned different areas where they will regularly monitor the drains. They will also regularly report to their seniors and will take emergency steps to tackle the problem.

The PMU has desilted over 30,000 tons of waste from the drains from January to March 15 this year.
