ISLAMABAD, March 18: The spokesman for President Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday said that a National Assembly session for the election of new prime minister would be called immediately after the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs sent a summary to the president.

“Rumours about a delay in convening the NA session are baseless,” Maj-Gen (retd) Rashid Qureshi said.

Talking to reporters at a sports function held by a private school here, he said President Musharraf wanted good working relationship with the coming government for the stability and prosperity of the country.

“The president wishes that the newly-elected assembly should complete its tenure and democracy flourish in the country.”

He said the president respected the people’s mandate given to parties in the elections, adding that he had fulfilled his promise to hold free and fair elections.
