LAHORE, March 16: In its crackdown against kite-flyers and the people engaged in the manufacture and sale of kites and string, the capital city police arrested 114 violators of the ban on Sunday.

The police action, launched in all the nine divisions of the city simultaneously, kept the unofficial `Basant celebration’ in low key.

According to official statistics, 22 cases were registered in Saddar division, 21 cases in Kot Lakhpat, 17 each in Cantonment and Mughalpura, 19 in Ravi, seven in Model Town, five in Iqbal Town, and one each in Civil Lines and City divisions.

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Malik Muhammad Iqbal said the police remained vigilant throughout Sunday and responded swiftly to complaints of kite-flying.

The CCPO said that not even a single aerial firing incident had been reported from the city during last two days.

The Ichhra police arrested two people, Shahbaz and Ejaz, from a godown in Javed Market and seized hundreds of kites and dozens of charkhis (spools) of string from their possession. A case was registered against them under Sections 3/4 Kite-flying Act.
