MITHI, March 15: The candidates, who were issued offer letters for the posts of primary teachers on Oct 11, 2007, started hunger strike outside the press club on Saturday demanding that the government issue them posting orders.
The protesters told Dawn at the hunger strike camp that about 4,200 candidates from Tharparkar appeared in the test held on July 31, 2007, for the posts of primary teacher and the EDO of education issued offer letters to 1,350 candidates on Oct 11, but none of them had since received posting orders.
The protesters marched from the press club to the office of district nazim and the DCO to apprise them of their problem but neither the nazim nor the DCO was available in the office.
They, however, managed to meet the EDO of education Prof Achar Abid Nohri, who told them that the chief secretary had restricted issuance of posting orders.
The protesters vowed to continue their strike till the issuance of posting orders.
FIR LODGED: Chhachhro police on Saturday lodged an FIR on the complaint of Jamal Bheel, who had been an agent for Pakistan People’s Party during elections, against 45 Pakistan Muslim League activists and leaders.
The complainant accused that he and three other PPP agents were held hostage, beaten and abused at a polling station in Aranro on Feb 18 allegedly by armed PML leaders and activists Qamaruddin Rahimoon, Dilawar Malkani, taluka nazim Chhachro, Dilar’s brothers Jamal and Murad, Yamin Nohri, Haji Abdullah Nohri, Jaindo Khan and others.
