Roddick to face Lopez for crown

DUBAI, March 8: American sixth seed Andy Roddick will play unseeded Spaniard Feliciano Lopez in the final of the Dubai Open on Saturday.

Roddick overcame third seed Novak Djokovic of Serbia 7-6, 6-3 while Lopez recovered from 2-5 in the final set to beat fifth-seeded Russian Nikolay Davydenko 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.

CANAS IN SEMIS

LAS VEGAS (Nevada): Fourth seed Guillermo Canas, bidding for an eighth ATP title, booked his place in the Las Vegas Open semi-finals by beating American qualifier Amer Delic 6-4, 6-4 on Friday.

Canas, the only seed left in the tournament, will meet unseeded American Sam Querrey, who beat Frenchman Julien Benneteau 7-5, 6-2.

American wildcard Robby Ginepri swept past Latvia’s Ernests Gulbis 6-1, 6-2 in less than an hour to reach the last four for the third time this year.

Ginepri next faces South African qualifier Kevin Anderson, who unleashed eight aces to crush Yevgeny Korolev of Russia 6-2, 6-0.

SISTERS CLASH

BANGALORE: Venus and Serena Williams will meet in the Bangalore Open semi-finals, their first encounter since the 2005 US Open fourth round.

Venus advanced with a 6-4 6-3 win over Russian Vera Zvonareva on Friday while her sister Serena crushed Russian Anastasia Rodionova 6-1, 6-4.

Top seed Jelena Jankovic of Serbia lost 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 to unseeded Chinese Yan Zi. The world No 54 next faces Swiss fourth seed Patty Schnyder, a 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 winner over Akgul Amanmuradova.—Reuters
