HAFIZABAD, March 5: A local additional district and sessions judge, who was acting as election tribunal for Gujranwala district, has disqualified a union council nazim and naib nazim pair after finding that the nazim’s graduation certificate was fake and naib nazim’s nomination papers did not carry assets declaration.

Model Town UC 40 nazim Sheikh Salim had attached his graduation degree along with his nomination papers. His rival Amir Akram challenged the authenticity of the nazim’s degree and also the absence of assets declaration along with naib nazim’s nomination papers through an election petition.

The petition came up for hearing before local additional district and sessions judge, Salahuddin, who found that the allegations were true. Later, the court disqualified nazim Sheikh Salim and naib nazim Khalid Butt and ordered polling afresh.

PRICE-HIKE: Farmers have expressed their grave concern over rocketing prices of petroleum products, electricity and fertilizers. The local chapter of Kisan Board, which met here on Wednesday, also expressed its concern over cotton, flour, wheat, rice and cane crises.

Participants of the meeting observed that it had become impossible to get highest yields from fields due to exorbitant price of fertilizers, particularly DAP as its price had been increased Rs3,000 per bag which was affecting wheat cultivation.

Meanwhile, the district nazim has said that transfer of any government servant without prior permission of his office would not be allowed. He was attending a meeting of all executive district officers here on Wednesday.
