LARKANA, March 4: While renewing his pledge to accomplish the mission of Benazir Bhutto, President of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), Aitzaz Ahsan, said here on Tuesday that the martyrs of Garhi Khuda Baksh Bhutto had put an additional responsibility on his shoulders “to open the doors of justice to the people”.
Talking to journalists after offering fateha at the graves of Benazir Bhutto and Z.A.Bhutto in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto, he said his conscience got a relief after visiting his leader’s grave.
He said both the democracy and prosperity in the country sans justice was impossible. I am going back with the responsibility and asked the people to pray for him to fulfil it, he said. He said he had no words to utter at the grave of Ms Benazir Bhutto.
Thanking the people, media and lawyers for their unflinching support throughout the struggle which, he hoped, would continue in the future as well.
After reaching Larkana, he drove straight to the grave of Benazir Bhutto at Garhi Khuda Bukhsh and recited Quranic verses, placed floral wreath and offered fateha. He also offered fateha at the grave of Z.A.Bhutto. Later, amidst tight security, he left for Sukkur.
PARLIAMENT: Later, at a press conference before his departure from Sukkur, Mr Ahsan said that if the parliament failed to reinstate the deposed judges, it would cause an irreparable loss to the people, reports our Sukkur correspondent.
Mr Aitzaz said that the edifice of parliament could not be raised on the debris of judiciary. He said that he was optimistic that the parliament would not commit such a blunder and demanded of it to give a timeframe for reinstatement of the deposed judges.
He said that PML-N took political mileage by making the issue of judges as a part of their election campaign, and contrary to that, the PPP kept a low profile on the issue.
He was confident that the alliance of PML-N, PPP and ANP would result in a strong government which would last long.
To a question, he said position of president Musharraf had become controversial because a petition was pending against him in the Supreme Court.
