Politicians decry suicide attack

LAHORE, March 4: Politicians have condemned the Naval College suicide attack and alleged that the terror incidents are a result of the policies adopted by the Musharraf regime since 9/11.

PML-N patron Nawaz Sharif and president Shahbaz Sharif have termed the incident regrettable and held Musharraf regime's policies responsible for the “flood of terror acts and suicide blasts.”

They say if no immediate solution to the problem is found, the country will move towards more destruction.

They say the PML-N will work in unison with other parties in the parliament to find a solution to terrorism so that the country can get rid of the menace.

Jamaat-i-Islami amir Qazi Husain Ahmad says frequent bomb blasts and suicide attacks in various towns have sent a wave of insecurity among peaceful citizens.

Holding Musharraf regime responsible for the deteriorating law and order, he regrets that the situation has worsened to the extent that even high-ranking officials are not safe and wonders that despite this President Musharraf is insisting to hold on to power.

He says the blasts may be a reaction of sticking to power by Musharraf and open US interference into government formation.

He says the president should immediately step down in the larger national interest.

Punjab PPP president Shah Mahmood Qureshi has expressed his deep grief at the incident saying the terror acts are aimed at weakening democracy in the country.

He says it is the responsibility of all democratic forces as well as of the masses to foil these conspiracies and cowardly acts.

JUP secretary-general Qari Zawwar Bahadur says the blast in the most sensitive area of the city shows that the present regime has badly failed in tackling the law and order issue.

He says the terror incidents may be a reaction of the military operations going on in Swat and Waziristan. He demands that President Musharraf should immediately resign for the country has been plunged into commotion due to his “ill-planned” policies.

Expressing his concern at the blast, Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadith (MJAH) chief Senator Sajid Mir has urged President Musharraf to immediately step down if the country and the nation are dear to him.

He alleges that the rising incidence of suicide blasts is a reaction to the policies adopted by the government in the name of war on terror.

He says some foreign and internal forces want to destabilise the country at a time when the power is being transferred to democratic forces so that wishes of the nation may not be reflected in running the national affairs. —Staff Reporter
