LAHORE, March 2: Five-goal Juan Garcia Grossi helped Bank Alfalah avenge their national championship defeat by beating ABN Amro Bank 6-5 1/2 in the Aibak Cup Polo final on Sunday.

Grossi fired two goals in the first chukker as the winners came out with a 2-1 1/2 lead. Jose Rivas reduced the margin for the losing side, who had a half goal handicap.

The winners made it 3-2 1/2 as Grossi and Rivas struck one each in the second chukker.

But the losing side in the third chukker, launched a successful recovery, scoring three in a row, two from Rivas and one from Hissam Ali Hyder to take a firm 5 1/2 -3 lead.

The winners, however, did not lose heart and chased their rivals in the fourth chukker, scoring three goals to turn the tables. Grossi scored two and Shah Qublai Alam one to seal their fate in the final.

Bank Alfalah was dethroned from monarchy last week by Amro Bank.

For the third position match, Glaxo Smith Kline/Rangers edged out Habib Bank Limited (HBL) by 9-8. The match-winner came in the extra chukker by six-goal Julio Nevillo Astrada.

Atif Tiwana (2) and Asif Zahoor (1) were the other scorers for the winners. Meanwhile Manuel Crespo (5), Iftikhar Ali Khan (2) and Taimur Ali Malik (1) found the targets for the losing side.
