KARACHI, March 1: The Malir Town Council on Saturday approved Rs21.5 million for the continuation of various uplift projects in the town and also renewed the contract of a legal adviser.

The council session was attended by the acting Town Nazim, Sharafat Ali, TMO Khurshid Ali, TO Infrastructure Salim Arif, Council Officer Mohammad Salim Paracha, Town Officer Revenue Ghulam Rasool, council members Rana Riaz, Abdul Khaliq, Asad Jamal, Mir Khuda Bux, Rehana Aamir, Huma Naz and Arif Masih.

One of the council members, Nasir Abbas, was of the view that the town was facing problems in the execution of uplift projects due to a shortage of funds in the current financial year. He also called for reviewing the town’s budget under the local government rules 2002.

Model park

The acting nazim of New Karachi Town, Mohammad Zulfikar, inaugurated Karwan-i-Aqsa model park in sector 11-D, UC-6.He said that the town administration was concentrating on the construction of roads and provision of other basic facilities to the area people on a priority basis.

He said that after completing almost 80 per cent of the work on various sewage and water lines and roads projects, the town administration had started construction of parks in different union councils. So far, he said, five model parks had been completed and opened for the public and more such recreational facilities were in the pipeline.

UC Nazim Syed Absarul Hasan, TMO Syed Kamal Ahmed, TO Infrastructure Raza Memon, DTO Parks Khurshid Ahmed and PRO Salman Ghori were also present.—PPI
