LAHORE, Feb 29: Alliance for Restoration of Democracy Secretary-General Qazi Abdul Qadeer Khamosh has called upon President Pervez Musharraf to dispel the impression of conspiring against public mandate and transfer power to the political party enjoying the support of the majority of elected representatives by convening the National Assembly session at the earliest.

Speaking at a meeting of the central executive committee of the Jamiat Ahle-i-Hadith here on Friday, he said the invitation of politicians defeated in the general election to the president's house time and again was creating an impression that the president was engaged in conspiracies against the mandate of the people. The president should desist from meeting the defeated politicians again and again and transfer power to the elected representatives of the people at the earliest without any reservations.

He said the national leaders of the political parties too should realise their responsibilities and ensure that the mandate of the people was not violated by the undemocratic forces. He said the Pakistan People’s Party co-chairperson was behaving like a responsible and patriotic politician by holding a dialogue on formation of government with all the parties. Only a national government could resolve the crisis prevailing in the country, he added.

He described the refusal of the PML-N to join the federal government on the grounds that its ministers would be administered oath by President Pervez Musharraf as an unrealistic thinking. He said the PML-N considered President Musharraf as an unconstitutional president, but it had contested the election under him and Mian Shahbaz Sharif would be taking oath of office of the Punjab chief minister from the governor appointed by him.

The political parties should make efforts for forming a strong national government and ensuring the supremacy of parliament instead of involving themselves in such trivialities.
