GUJRANWALA, Feb 29: As many as 69 prisoners, including three minors, involved in petty cases were released by the district and sessions judge during his visit to Central Jail here on Friday.

During his visit, District and Sessions Judge Arshed Mahmood Cheema got prepared a list of prisoners involved in petty cases. Later, he ordered to release 69 of them on his own surety. He also inspected the jail hospital and kitchen and listened to the prisoners’ complaints.

He directed jail authorities to provide better facilities to the prisoners in accordance with the jail manual. Jail Superintendent Sikander Hayat and other senior officers were present there.

FIA: A Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) team has arrested at least 69 people from Islamabad airport who were deported by the Turkish government on Friday.

FIA additional director Hussain Asghar received information that 69 people, who were deported by the Turkish government, were reaching Islamabad on which an FIA team was sent to nab them. The deportees mostly belonging to Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot and Mandi Bahauddin district were brought to Gujranwala where they were being quizzed. Some deportees told reporters that human agents extorted Rs300,000 to Rs400,000 from them to send them Greece but handed them over to their sub-agents in Iran and Turkey.

PROTEST: Activists of religious parties, including JUI-F, Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadith, Jamat Ahle Sunnat and Sunni Tehrik, demonstrated on GT Road here on Friday to protest the republication of derogatory sketches by Danish newspapers.
