DARRA ADAMKHEL, Feb 29: Tribal elders here have decided to send a jirga to meet the head of Tehreek Taliban Pakistan Baitullah Mehsud to seek his help to curb militancy in the restive Darra Adamkhel.

The decision was taken at a jirga held at Zarghunkhel checkpost on Friday which discussed the prevailing situation in the region and decided to hold a rally on Sunday to express solidarity with the government.

Elders agreed to hold talks with Baitullah Mehsud and to ask him to play his role in cubing militancy in the region where security forces had launched an operation against militants, last month.

Tribesmen vowed to eliminate militants from the area and assured full support to the security forces and tribal administration to put an end to the militancy.

Hajji Syed Wazir, president of a local peace body, Darra Quami Tahreek, which organised the jirga, urged the local people to hand over the militants to the administration and assist security forces to improve the law and order situation in the area.

The jirga asked the militants to stop their activities and leave the region. The jirga members said that the acts of sabotage had badly affected the business activities in the region.
