TIMERGARA, Feb, 29: At least nine people were injured in a clash between two tribes of Lower Dir over a land dispute on Friday.

The incident happened in Makhai Dara, in the jurisdiction of Munda police station. Residents told Dawn that the fighting between the Alizai and Gury tribes continued for more than three hours. Both sides had taken positions on hilltops and used heavy and light arms.

Munda police officials said that a team had been sent to the site and they had no details about the causalities. However, the police confirmed that nine people had been injured in the incident, whose names could not be ascertained immediately.

The residents said that the longstanding dispute over a piece of land turned violent when one party tried to plant trees on the disputed land while members of the other came out with guns and sticks to prevent the plantation.
