RAWALPINDI, Feb 26: The overall security strategy in the garrison area of Rawalpindi was reviewed at a high level meeting here on Tuesday, Dawn has learnt.

The meeting was held with City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi Saud Aziz in the chair.

The CPO took his subordinates to task for failing to check the terrorist activities in the city, the source said.

The source while quoting the CPO said: “It was the negligence of Station House Officers (SHOs) that caused the incident.”

Army’s top surgeon Lt Gen Mushtaq Ahmad Baig, his guard, driver and three civilians were killed and several others injured in a suicide attack which took place on a busy road in Rawalpindi on Monday.

The source said the security cover; being provided - especially to the armed forces and security personnel was reviewed in the meeting.

It was decided to increase police patrolling all along the road starting from Aamar chowk to the CMH chowk.

Besides, the security points had also been increased on the Mall Road and on the traffic signals, which are security hazard, the source said.

It has also been decided in the meeting that all the baggers wondering around the cars stopped on traffic signals must be discouraged and movement of young people, especially those of fair complexion should be monitored.

A source close to the investigation revealed that the investigation team has been examining the footage of the suicide bomber, captured by the CCTV cameras installed outside Nadra Swift Registration Centre located a few meters from the site of the yesterdays suicide strike.
