MIRPURKHAS, Feb 25: Umerkot District Nazim Faqeer Maghan Mangrio has said that he has the majority of members in the district council on his side and the threat of a no-trust move is part of an intimidation campaign.

He was speaking at a press conference in Umerkot on Monday. Mangrio said that out of 38 members of district council, he had the support of 34 and if the PPP planned to table a no-trust motion, they would have to prove their majority.

He said that Rs3 billion worth of development works had been carried out during his tenure.

FUNDS: Mirpurkhas District Nazim Dr Sughra Junejo said that there was a need to simplify the system of distribution of Baitul Maal funds so that it could benefit poor people.

She said this while presiding over a meeting to review the distribution of Baitul Maal funds.The meeting was attended by DCO Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah, officers of Zakat and Ushr, Baitul Maal and members of the social welfare committee.

According to a handout issued here on Monday, the district Nazim said that the Baitul Maal money should be distributed judiciously, adding that there were ample funds for 350 deserving persons from each union councils.

Baitul Maal’s district officer Syed Ehsan Ali Shah said that Rs3,000 would be provided to 15,000 deserving people through post offices. The meeting decided to give the money to deserving people after proper identification.
