LAHORE, Feb 24: The watchman of a local bank on Sunday allegedly shot dead his wife and injured her mother, aunt and younger brother over a domestic issue in Awami Colony, Factory Area.

Police said that 32-year-old Saira Bibi of Firdous Park, Ghazi Road, had contracted marriage with Wajahat Khan of Abottabad about a year ago after getting divorce from her cousin.

She was living with her husband Wajahat in a rented house on Mast Iqbal Road in Chungi Amar Sidhu.

A few months back, Saira returned to her parents’ when Wajahat fell out with her. About a week ago, Saira gave birth to a baby girl, which was quite against the expectation of Wajahat as he wanted a son. On Sunday, Wajahat went to his in-laws’ to reconcile with his wife, but she refused. Falling into a rage, Wajahat whipped out his pistol and opened fire indiscriminately, killing Saira instantly and injuring seriously her mother Nasreen, aunt Yasmeen and brother Nauman (10).

Ambulances of Rescue 1122 and Edhi rushed the injured to the General Hospital where the condition of Nasreen was said to be critical. Police removed the body for autopsy.

A case has been registered against the absconding accused on the report of Azam Khan, brother of deceased Saira.

TWO KILLED: A motorcyclist and a rickshaw driver were killed while another biker sustained injuries when a speeding bus hit their vehicles near Qainchi bridge on main Ferozepur Road on Sunday.

An Edhi official said that the bus first hit the two motorbikes and then smashed into a rickshaw. Consequently, biker Sajid Siddique, 27, and rickshaw driver Shahzad Akram died on the spot while Azam Butt of Ichhra sustained injuries. Both motorcycles and the rickshaw were damaged.

Kot Lakhpat police impounded the bus and registered a case against the arrested bus driver, Muhammad Hanif.

A couple sustained critical injuries when their motorcycle slipped on Ferozepur Road at Nishtar Colony stop on Sunday.

The Edhi official said Nadir and his wife Rehana of Kahna Nau were shifted to Lahore General Hospital.

STOLEN: A car was lifted from Garden Town and another from Johar Town, while a motorcycle was stolen from Qilla Gujjar Singh and another from Wahdat Colony.
