KARACHI, Feb 22: In a fast-paced, close finish final on a cloudy Friday morning, City School North Nazimabad beat rivals Habib Girls School (HGS) 11-10 to win the Karachi Women Netball Cup 2008.

The scoring was opened by HGS goal attack (GA) Ramsha Agha followed by another quick goal by their spectacled shooter Aqsa Abid. But then City School N. Nazimabad came from behind to steal the lead after Umama Qadri, City School’s GA, warmed up to the cheering from the sidelines by City School PECHS alongwith the timely instructions by their coach Humaira Huma.

When the ball reached her hands, Umama wouldn’t miss the basket even from the farthest point in the ‘D’ as 10 of the 11 goals scored by the winners were made by her.

For the losing side, Ramsha scored eight out of their total tally of 10 goals.

Moving neck and neck throughout the match, The City School found themselves leading by two goals in the final moments of the game but HGS managed another goal to lose the match by just one.

Earlier, in the day’s other match, City School PECHS thrashed Karachi Grammar School (KGS) 16-8 to bag the third position.

The matches were supervised by umpires Khalid Parvaiz, M. Yasir, Khurram Suleman and Muhammad Ali.

Hira Taufeeq, City School Nazimabad’s captain, and Sarah Jawaid, their vice-captain lifted the winner’s trophy. Aqsa Abid, captain, and Anum Irfan, vice captain, of the HGS team received the runners-up trophy.

Umama Qadri was given ‘best shooter of the tournament’ prize.

The trophies, shield and certificates were given out by the chief guest at the closing ceremony Muhammad Azam Khan, AIGP Sindh Police. Finally Mudassar Arain, secretary Pakistan Netball Federation (PNF) thanked all the participating teams.
