KARACHI, Feb 22: The chief executive officer of the Karachi Electric Supply Company, Syed Mohammad Amjad, said that the city would face massive load-shedding during the summer season owing to cuts in the power supply from the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) by 200 megawatts.

He was speaking at a meeting called by the business community here at a local hotel.

The KESC official said that the power crisis might intensify if Wapda failed to provide the required power supply of 700 megawatts to the KESC within the next few days.

He said that the industrial sector consumed 600 megawatts, which was 40 per cent of the total KESC capacity while 25 megawatts were being used by streetlights in the city.

He said that the use of air-conditioners and fans would increase the load to 700 megawatts, which would cause power outages of long durations.—PPI
