Thal Express restored

Published February 21, 2008

LAHORE, Feb 20: The operation of Thal Express, running between Rawalpindi and Multan through Kundian, has been restored.

The 129-up/130-down Thal Express was among the trains whose operation was suspended on Dec 27 last year when rioters torched trains and uprooted tracks following the assassination of PPP leader Benazir Bhutto.

The train will now operate according to its schedule given in the timetable, a railways spokesman said on Wednesday.

During the riots, seventeen locomotives were destroyed while several others partially damaged in addition to damage to coaches, tracks and signalling system.

The situation resulted in discontinuation of six train services and temporary suspension of 17 others.
