LAHORE, Feb 20: Former Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president Munir A Malik has expressed his pleasure over the results of the Feb 18 election and described these as victory of the democratic forces.

In a press release issued here on Wednesday, Malik said the election gave people an opportunity to give the parliament the mandate to restore the deposed judges and build civil institutions. He urged members of all bar associations to remain active and support the democratic process.

“It is now imperative for all political parties to recognise a judiciary which inspires the confidence of the people that is backbone of any democratic transition,” he said.

Malik also called for immediate release of detained lawyers.

PJT: The Pakistan Jamhoori Tehrik convener has hailed the victory of the Pakistan People’s Party and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz in the Feb 18 election and congratulated people for making the ‘right’ decision.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, Safdar Siddiqi said the election result augurs well for the country provided the winning party leaders work together with sincerity.—APP
