Recounting plea by PPP dismissed

MIRPURKHAS, Feb 20: Returning Officer, Mirpurkhas, Yamin Khan on Wednesday dismissed an application of the PPP candidate for PS-64 Mirpurkhas-1 for recounting of votes.

Naveed Buland, PPP candidate submitted an application to the Returning Officer through his counsel, Salahuddin Panhwar alleging rigging at 19 polling stations in Mirpurkhas city and of bogus voting. Returning officer dismissed the application for lack of evidence.

The MQM candidate Faheem Ahmed Altafi won this seat by securing 32,597 votes while Naveed Buland got 30,023 votes.

Meanwhile, the Presiding Officer of Polling Station#11 Hameedpura Colony, lodged a case under section 147, 149, 427, 397 and 171 PPC with Town Police on Tuesday night, accusing around 100 unknown persons of entering polling station and forcibly taking away ballot papers.—Correspondent
