HYDERABAD, Feb 20: Supporters of the Pakistan People’s Party on Wednesday staged a demonstration against torching of a big poster of assassinated party chairperson Benazir Bhutto by some unidentified people in the Phulelli area.Tension prevailed in the area when the protesters gathered at the site of the hoarding in the limits of Pinvari police station. They raised slogans but did not turn violent.

UC Naib Nazim Mohammad Ali Nahyoon, who was leading the protesters, said that the torching of the poster was an attempt to foment riots and create tension in the area.

Police have registered a case against unidentified people on the complaint of the area councillor, Ghulam Hyder Kachhi.

Meanwhile, PPP supporters on Tuesday night took out a procession to celebrate party’s victory in Monday’s election.

Case lodged: The police have lodged a case against the PPP candidate of NA-219 on the complaint of an Assistant Presiding Officer of male polling station-162 for manhandling and causing obstruction in official duty.

Hali Road Police lodged a case against PPP candidate Ali Mohammad Sahto and 50 unidentified men on the complaint of Assistant Presiding Officer Syed Ishaque for manhandling him in American Quarters on February 18. The case was lodged under sections 337H(ii), 353, 147, 148, 149 PPC vide crime no 44/08.

No one was arrested. The complainant said that not only was he beaten but accused also resorted to aerial firing outside the polling station.
