PESHAWAR, Feb 19: Police on Tuesday arrested an Afghan national and reportedly recovered explosives from his possession.
The accused was identified as Abdur Rahim. As per the initial interrogation, sources said, the accused had disclosed some names belonging to a gang, who were currently in Afghanistan and had paid him for carrying the explosives to a place near Firdus Chowk in Peshawar.
The explosives weighed about four kilograms. A safety fuse was also recovered from the accused. Hayatabad police said he was arrested at Karkhano Check post and a case had been registered in this regard.
An organised group was behind transportation of explosives from Afghanistan to parts of Pakistan, officials claimed.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for the police said that 39 persons, involved in different cases, were arrested in the jurisdictions of various police stations. Police reportedly recovered 37 pistols, 14 Kalashnikovs and two Kalakos from the accused.
