TOBA TEK SINGH, Feb 17: Reconciliation brought about by PML-Q chief Pervaiz Elahi between party’s candidate for NA-93 Mian Kashif Ashfaq and PP-86 hopeful Dr Ashfaqur Rehman has come to naught as Mian Kashif is supporting independent candidate Mian Tahir Pervaiz Anjum for the provincial seat.
Kashif Ashfaq is the son of former district nazim Chaudhry Muhammad Ashfaq and Dr Ashfaqur Rehman is cousin of National Security Council secretary Tariq Aziz.
Former chief minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi had reconciled Mian Kashif and Dr Ashfaqur Rehman during his public meeting here two weeks ago.
Earlier, both the contestants were opposing each other in their campaigns but Pervaiz Elahi had made them sit with him on the stage during the public meeting.
Dr Ashfaq said on Sunday that Mian Kashif and his relatives were openly opposing him and asking people to vote for Mian Tahir Pervaiz.
He claimed that he had already complained to Pervaiz Elahi in this regard.
A few days back, a public meeting was held at grain market by Tahir Pervaiz which was also addressed on telephone by former MNA Mian Farhan Latif, cousin of Mian Kashif Ashfaq.
WITHDRAWAL: An independent candidate for PP-84 (Gojra), Nasir Mahmood, on Sunday announced his withdrawal in favour of PML-Q candidate Chaudhry Bilal Asghar Warraich, ex-MPA from the constituency.
Interestingly, he had obtained symbol of “lota” as he was the follower of Darbar Hazrat Baba Lotay Shah of Gojra. His withdrawal came on the direction of the Sajjada Nasheen of the darbar.
Mr Nasir made the announcement in a meeting where Bilal Asghar Warraich and his elder brother former MNA Amjad Warraich were also present.
According to political observers, the position of PML-N hopeful Chaudhry Usman Cheema (brother of Gojra tehsil nazim Asad Zaman Cheema) is strong than Bilal Asghar and PPP’s Syed Hasnat Mahmood.
