KARACHI, Feb 15: Family of Kainat Soomro, a victim of gang-rape, has complained that the police in Dadu were constantly exerting pressure to withdraw the case it had filed against those who subjected her to gang-rape.

Her father said that his son, Sabir Soomro, had been implicated in a case of rioting that took place in the province after the Dec 27, 2007 assassination of PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto. Sabir was arrested on Jan 2 and he has since been lodged in the Hyderabad jail. According to him, Sabir has already been fixed in a false case.

Kainat Soomro said she was raped on Jan 10, 2007 by four persons from Jatoi tribe and she, along with her other family members, moved to Karachi after receiving threats from the accused. However, Sabir and his wife returned to their home.

“The first FIR shows Sabir involved in the ransacking of a showroom and the second one charges him with possessing a Kalashnikov,” said Kainat’s father, adding that the SHO concerned was asking the family to withdraw the case against the accused.—Staff Reporter
