UNITED NATIONS, Feb 13: Foreign Minister of France Bernard Kouchner has said that a United Nations inquiry into the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto could be sought if “group of friends”, which including European ambassadors recommend a ‘format’ for such an inquiry.

Speaking to reporters at a UN media gathering after a Security Council meeting, Mr Kouchner noted that a “Scotland Yard” inquiry had been concluded, but said that a UN inquiry could be sought if the European envoys agreed to a particular format. “We can consider this”, he added.

He was responding to a question by a reporter who had asked: “Would France support a Harriri-like UN inquiry into the death of former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto.”
