PESHAWAR, Feb 12: The Pakistan Railway (PR) is planning to commence a train shuttle service from the city railway station to Hayatabad to provide swift transportation facility to the students and working people.

Caretaker Minister for Railway Mansoor Tariq shared the concept paper of the project with NWFP Governor Owais Ahmad Ghani and sought his support for its execution at a meeting here on Tuesday.Main concept behind the commencement of train shuttle service was to reduce the vehicular traffic load, which had become a permanent nuisance for more than 2.5 million dwellers of the provincial metropolis.

Under the project, a shuttle service will be operated in morning times that will take the passengers mostly students and working people from the city railway station to Hayatabad.

“This will facilitate their swift movement and also slightly help organising vehicular traffic,” Asad Saeed, the general manager of Pakistan Railway told Dawn after the meeting. The PR, according to him, had also presented the concept paper of the project to the officials of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) for getting their consent as well.

The railway track, on which the shuttle service will be operated, is passing through the active runway jointly used for Peshawar International Airport and the PAF’s fighter aircrafts simultaneously making it the World’s sole runway having this uniqueness.
