Boje to lead Northamptonshire

Published February 9, 2008

NORTHAMPTON (England), Feb 8: South Africa’s former spinner Nicky Boje has been named as Northamptonshire’s captain for the 2008 season.

During his brief stint with the club last year, Boje impressed with his professionalism and attitude, and according to a club statement, “It was an easy decision to make”.

In four Championship games Boje averaged over 41 with the bat with a top score of 125, and he also took 16 wickets at 23.

Mark Tagg, Northamptonshire’s Chief executive, said: “We need an experienced and capable captain who can bring the best out of the talents available.

“With David Sales taking himself out of contention, the unanimous choice of the board is that Boje should be asked to take up the challenge.”

Meanwhile, David Capel, the head coach, stated: “Northants Cricket is fortunate to have somebody of the calibre and proven track record that Boje has in performing this role. He has the full support of the club.”—Agencies
