Severe cold in Nawabshah

NAWABSHAH, Feb 8: The district after almost 33 years experienced the coldest day of the year as the temperature fell down to -3.5 degrees Centigrade here on Friday.

Mr Ronaq Ali at the local met office said the district has experienced the coldest day of the year.

Karam Khan at Meteorological Department, Karachi airport, said that Nawabshah had experienced -3.0 C on February 8, 1974, which was a record.

Like other parts of country, Nawabshah and most towns of Sindh are in the grip of severe cold weather with temperature dropping below freezing point since last couple of days.

Nawabshah has also record of the highest temperature throughout the country where mercury crosses 52 degrees Centigrade mark in May since last few years.

Strong chilly winds lashed the town and other areas throughout the day.

The maximum temperature in the city was recorded at 19 degrees Centigrade.

Most streets and markets wore deserted look, except the old-clothes’ market where people were seen buying woollen cloths.

The local Met office said that the cold was due to the chilly winds coming from the North and forecast that the cold snap would continue for next 3-4 days.
