RAWALPINDI, Feb 7: Three people were killed and six others injured when a passenger wagon smashed into a trailer parked on a roadside near Kallar Syedan early Thursday morning, police said.

The wagon, which was heading towards Kallar Syedan, crashed into a trailer parked along the road, killing three persons on the spot and injuring six others. The condition of four is stated to be critical. The dead and injured, trapped in the wreckage of the vehicle, were pulled out by rescuers and shifted to different hospitals. The cause of the accident is being investigated by the police.

Meanwhile, a furniture shop was gutted after fire broke out in a commercial building located at Committee Chowk on Thursday, police and emergency service officials said.

Fire erupted in a plastic furniture shop owned by Tanveer Ahmed located on the ground floor of a triple-storey building. As the fire erupted, the shop employees and families residing in the upper storey of the building ran away. Rescue 1122 and the police were called to the scene and fire extinguishing operation was started. It took more than one hour to extinguish the flames. The cause of the fire is stated to be short circuit.

Correspondent from Taxila adds: An auto thief was killed on Thursday when he rammed a stolen vehicle into a truck while trying to escape arrest on the Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway (M-1), police said.
